Skin Whitening Can Help with Overly Tanned Skin

skin whiteningSkin whitening is somewhat controversial, but it can certainly improve the skin’s appearance.  After years of sun exposure, your face may have the look of tanned leather.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have the complexion you had as a child?

It is important to remember that the damage can be redone.  If you take the time to use a safe and effective whitener, you should also take steps to prevent the damage from recurring.

You should also be aware that as your complexion become lighter, it will be more likely to burn.

Don’t put too much faith in sunscreens.  Their effectiveness is limited.  Some of the chemical sunscreens may even contribute to skin cancer.

So wear a hat with a wide brim.  Use large sunglasses to protect the area around your eyes.  Stay in the shade whenever possible.

Remember that reflections from water can burn, too.  If you are spending the day by the pool or on the beach, use a zinc oxide sun block on your face.  It will look white and thick, which is a good thing.  It is the disappearing sunscreens that are least effective and most dangerous.

If you take those protective steps while you are using a skin whitening cream, you will see faster results.  The ingredients in today’s creams vary.  Some are safer than others.  Some are more effective than others.

The safest and most effective whitener is an extract from the cyperus rotundus plant.  The plant is considered a weed in most areas and grows practically everywhere, so there are many common names.  Nut grass root is one.

Extra-pone Nut Grass is the European formula created from the plant.  It is included at a low concentration in creams for soothing irritations.  At higher concentrations, it is effective for facial skin whitening.

The formula works by inhibiting melanin production.  Melanin is responsible for the skin’s color.  More is produced during sun exposure to help protect the inner layers from UV damage.

So, it does serve a purpose, which is one of the reasons inhibiting melanin is controversial.  If a person took steps to whiten, but did not take other steps to protect against sun damage, they would be at an increased risk of skin cancer.

Another reason for the controversy is the ingredients that some companies include in their whiteners.  One of the most common is hydroquinone, although it has been banned from cosmetics by the European Union.  It is still used in skin whitening creams manufactured in the US.

Hydroquinone can cause permanent black bumps to appear on the skin’s surface.  The reaction is rare, but it happens more often than anyone would like.

An increased risk of cancer has been associated with hydroquinone products, although the connection could be due to people not taking the necessary precautions in the sun.  It is primarily the perceived cancer risk that led to the ingredient being banned.

To sum it up, skin whitening can be safe if you use the right cream and you take protective measures.  Otherwise, it can be dangerous.
